LDW Highlights
This year, the gallery invites internationally renowned designer Emmanuel Babled, based in Lisbon, to take over the space with a presentation of his furniture and objects, alongside a curated selection of tapestries.
The exhibition is part of our "Spotlight Section" for LDW 26.
Manufactura de Tapeçarias de Portalegre, founded in 1946, is exclusively dedicated to the production of decorative wall tapestries of art, using its own technique, entirely manual, "the Portalegre weave". The materials used are pure wool and cotton.
The Tapestry of Portalegre is a work of art that results from a unique partnership between the artist, the draughtswoman, and the weavers. Always starting from an original painting, it is its transposition to another support, revealing another dimension of that work. Portalegre Tapestries besides being works of art also create comfort due to their properties as sound and temperature isolation.
The gallery is made up of three rooms. While the walls mainly feature tapestries, the space is often used to showcase creations by other artists, as happened in previous editions
