The Collaboration DC.AD × Constança Entrudo will be presented at Atelier Constança Entrudo
DC.AD and Constança Entrudo present a system of modular surfaces that explore new ways of constructing and transforming space. Developed from joint research between architecture and textiles, the pieces function as flexible structures that allow environments to be created without permanent intervention.
The collaboration between Duarte Caldas from DC.AD and Constança Entrudo’s studio arises from a shared interest in expanding their practices into new areas, from product design to the development of materials for interiors. It also reflects a moment of transition in both practices, as DC.AD develops work around objects and furniture through acrylic systems, often transparent and dual function, while Constança Entrudo expands her work beyond fashion into textile design for interiors. Initiated in 2024 with the SOPHIA restaurant project, this dialogue has now evolved into a set of pieces presented for the first time at this exhibition.
The objects propose hybrid surfaces that can take on multiple functions: wall covering, finishing material, three dimensional “wallpaper”, space delimiting element or autonomous structure, such as screens or partitions. Each piece is made up of two layers, a modular transparent acrylic structure and a printed or plain textile covering, exploring different levels of transparency, density and texture.
By overlapping these layers, the pieces create visual depth and introduce a spatial ambiguity between what is a boundary and what is a passage. They function as “soft boundaries”, limits that do not completely close off space, but filter it. The interaction with light, color and texture becomes central, allowing diffusion, reflection and continuous transformation of the perception of the environment.
Designed to build spaces flexibly, these structures incorporate a logic of mutability: they can grow, reduce, adapt and reconfigure according to the context. They make it possible to create new environments without extensive intervention, being customisable and reusable systems that encourage reuse.
In addition to their decorative character, the pieces also offer technical properties and can integrate acoustic or lighting solutions that can be designed specifically to create functional and unique pieces for specific uses.
The exhibition features three different products that demonstrate the system’s versatility and its adaptability to different scales, from domestic to commercial.
Visitors are invited to enter the studio and experience these surfaces in use, in an environment that reveals both the final result and the experimental process that gave rise to it.
