Rian van Dijk is an interior architect and founder of Artemis interieur & architectuur, a multidisciplinary studio she established over 30 years ago. With a background in spatial design, renovation and sustainable transformation of existing buildings, her work is rooted in a deep understanding of materials, systems and the built environment.
Alongside her architectural practice, she has developed an independent body of work exploring sheep wool as a material within art and architecture. Working with locally sourced wool that is often considered waste, she transforms raw fleece into tactile, sculptural surfaces that highlight the material’s spatial and acoustic qualities.
Her work questions how value is assigned to materials and challenges the systems that render them obsolete. By bringing wool into new contexts, she proposes alternative ways of working—where material, labour and origin are acknowledged as essential parts of the design process.
