LDW Highlights

For this edition, studio k. is collaborating with Oskar Rink, a German artist who now lives and works close to Sintra. The collaboration will be a combination of porcelain objects and illustrations, presented as a limited edition and available for the first time during LDW26. Besides the collaboration with Oskar Rink, studio k. will also present the new private collection “Nature Recast.”

With her studio still in Lisbon but with a recent move of home to the country/beachside of Magoito, there is a slight shift in the pieces that are currently being made by Kiki. Inspiration is taken daily from long beachwalks, views over the countryside and local clay sourced at the beach. Porcelain and wild clay will be combined, resulting in surprisingly tactile objects.

Kiki Voortman is a Dutch designer based in Lisbon. Trained as a textile designer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, she moved to Portugal 11 years ago and founded studio k., a creative space where her main focus now is on making porcelain objects that are clear in form and well-balanced in use. No unnecessary gestures—just careful decisions about shape, proportion, and surface. Most pieces start from the material itself. Porcelain in particular sets the conditions: how thin something can be, how it reacts in the kiln, how light moves through it. That process is not fully controlled, and that’s part of the work. Small shifts and imperfections are not corrected but used. Her work, crafted with meticulous attention to detail, includes contemporary porcelain pieces ranging from colorful tableware to interior design objects, such as lamps and wall decorations. The studio is nested in the beautiful site of Pateo Alfacinha in Ajuda.
