LDW Highlights

Lounge curated by Joana Astolfi for Lisbon Design Week "The Living Room"

The LDW Lounge of ARCO Lisboa 2026, conceived by architect, artist, and designer Joana Astolfi, unfolds as a 90 m² living room embedded within the fair’s main space. Known for her multidisciplinary practice spanning architecture, interior design, scenography, and collectible design, Astolfi has developed a distinctive language that merges narrative, material experimentation, craft and spatial storytelling. Her work, often characterized by immersive environments and a strong emotional resonance, reflects a continuous dialogue between art, design, and architecture.

For this project, Astolfi brings together a selection of designers participating in Lisbon Design Week, inviting them to contribute pieces that collectively shape a shared domestic landscape. Rather than a curated exhibition, the space is conceived as an inhabited environment, an open welcoming setting where visitors, gallerists, and participants are encouraged to pause, meet, and converse. It becomes a point of connection within the fair, blurring the boundaries between public and intimate space.

The lounge will also host both the ARCO Lisboa information desk and key information related to Lisbon Design Week, positioning it as a central hub for orientation and exchange. The atmosphere draws from Astolfi’s recognizable universe: warm, tactile, and layered, with a careful balance between comfort and conceptual clarity. Materials, textures, and objects are orchestrated to evoke familiarity while maintaining a sense of discovery.

While Lisbon Design Week extends across more than 80 locations throughout the city, this intervention offers a complementary gesture within ARCO Lisboa, a place not to exhibit, but to inhabit. The Lounge becomes a temporary home inside the fair, fostering moments of rest, dialogue, and shared experience.

The Cordoaria Nacional will once again be the main venue of the fair, hosting the galleries and projects selected by the Organising Committee, along with content developed by curatorial teams. It will bring together around 80 national and international galleries, ensuring a vibrant dialogue between the Portuguese art scene and international creation.
Even so, since its very first edition, ARCOlisboa has intentionally been much more than an event concentrated within the Cordoaria Nacional. It is a celebration of art in the city and in the country, and a driving force that has greatly contributed to activating the entire artistic ecosystem.

This edition of ARCOlisboa fair, in addition to marking the important milestone of 10 years in Portugal, reflects the growth and maturity of the project. With the participation of around 80 galleries from approximately 17 countries, ARCOlisboa will showcase the vitality of the Portuguese artistic scene, engaging in a broad dialogue with international creation. The fair will once again be organised into different curatorial sections: the General Programme, the central core of the fair, will bring together national and international galleries whose proposals stand out for their commitment to artistic quality and excellence. In addition, ARCOlisboa will feature the Opening Lisboa section, curated by Sofía Lanusse and Diogo Pinto, dedicated to promoting new artistic languages and spaces, fostering discovery and research. This edition also includes a special project led by curator Cosmin Costinas, which will explore traditional knowledge within the context of contemporary artistic creation.
