Guide to cultural, educational and non profits orgs

Lisbon Design Week seeks to integrate in one unifying event all kinds of initiatives and projects in the field of design and high craft. We believe it is a great importance to invite non profit organizations to participate in the event for free, this year with three incredible participants. We also partner with several educational and cultural institutions, who also play a very important aspect of our program; a way for the public to be aware of the strength and importance of design, craft and artistic education. Notable workshops as part of these programs are at end of article.

ARTISANS MAP, PASSA AO FUTURO, LOULE CREATIVO

Artisans Map is a free cultural guide in Mafra that points out the workshops and ateliers where people still create by hand and produce in a natural and sustainable way. Catch their special bookbinding workshop at Tinta nos Nervos, a unique book store and gallery in Santos. This will be led by an artisan brought by the organization - book the event here. Passa ao Futuro is an organization already well established in Portugal that is working hard to preserve the cultural heritage of Portuguese craftsmanship. They will present at the Clubhouse of our sponsor Ando Living (open to the public only during LDW), “Campo”, a special exhibition exploring plant based design by Sam Baron with craftsman Nuno Henriques of Toino Abel. This project is funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and had the local support of De La Espada (also our main sponsor). Finally, we invited Loulé Criativo, another remarkable initiative that promotes the identity of Algarve through its creativity and artisans. Their local artisans will be on show at Depozito - don't miss this visit from Algarve’s rising creative design hub.

We can also mention one of the artist residencies tfrom our program last year and back this year La Junqueira (5 mins from ARCO). They will present sculptures by the current artist in residence, Max Coulon.

FBAUL, IADE, ARTLIER

FBAUL, the Fine Arts faculty of the Lisbon University, the oldest higher education school of the arts in Portugal located in Chiado in a former Franciscan convent dating from 1217. It has an amazing program of open classes, workshops, visits and guided tours. IADE, is part of the private university Universidade Europeia and pioneered the teaching of design in Portugal. They have prepared in their Santos building a program of talks, exhibitions and workshops. Artlier is a new school of art and craft and to celebrate their new space they invited their creatives to prepare an exhibition inspired by George Braque. Each deserve a visit and exploration of their workshops. Visit their pages for the full listings and at end for highlights of events taking place.

MNAC, PORTUGAL FAZ BEM, MUT DESIGN

Finally, we are delighted to have MNAC, the national museum of contemporary art as a participating venue. They are presenting, in partnership with the organization Portugal Faz Bem, a fascinating program of workshops and talks as well as a choice of design pieces from Portuguese brands in their new shop. Finally, note that BUREL factory is exhibiting in their Fashion Shop, pieces by fashion design students from Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade de Lisboa and in their Home and Interior Shop, objects by product design master's students from Universidade da Beira Interior. MUT Design is also showing work from a residency with EASD Valencia at Arquivo Aires Mateus.
