Sailor, Marketeer, Mum and Pajaki Artist, Marta Ramada Leite is the force behind Craft Gardens. With an adventurous spirit and a passion for art and design, she has turned her dream into reality. Her journey began with the Tassel Chandeliers, pieces that mark the transition from tradition to the contemporary, creating not just decorative objects, but sensory experiences that capture the essence of life.
Inspired by Pajaki folk art, an 18th century Polish ancestral technique, and biophilic philosophy, the designer celebrates the fusion between nature and design, between the past and the future. Craft Gardens is an expression of her vision of a world where sustainability and emotional design go hand in hand.
Each Craft Gardens creation is a manifesto in favour of sustainability and emotional design. Using natural materials and artisanal techniques, the designer reinterprets tradition in a contemporary context, rescuing ancient knowledge to build a more conscious and poetic future. Her work reflects the balance between textures, colours and organic forms, resulting in compositions that invite a deep connection with the spaces we inhabit.
Artistic statement:
Craft Gardens was born out of the desire to recover memories and reinvent them, respecting the soul of Pajaki and transcending it into a contemporary dialogue. The past intertwines with the present in a fusion where Polish tradition is reinvented in the light of Portuguese aesthetics and spirit, creating pieces and lighting items that are not mere decorative objects, but manifestations of colour and joy, symbols of prosperity, health, happiness, and well-being - visual narratives that arouse emotions and transform spaces.
Each creation is a ritual of time and gesture. The art of making tassels and delicate ornaments, made entirely from cotton threads and, more recently, with materials recovered from the national textile industry, becomes a meditative act, where the touch of the hands imprints history, intention, and soul on each piece. The result is not just an object, but an ode to joy and creative energy.
At Lisbon Design Week, Craft Gardens is presenting a new collection using ECONYL© yarn, a sustainable material regenerated from discarded fishing nets and other waste. This collection translates the essence of nature into ethereal and delicate forms, exploring the beauty of renewal and reuse. Each piece tells a story of transformation, bringing together art, design, and ecological commitment to create spaces that inspire and engage.
